But look, I can answer my phone by waving my hand over it. Yep, that's so freaking Jedi. In case you missed it, check out this awesome SNL skit about Google Glass. Thank you. Also, Windows 8 is the reason everything broke for Eric Finkenbiner during the hangout. Brilliant. I started using Google Play Books across all my Android devices, and I have to say, for this being my first tablet book reading experience, I love it. Everything works great across my Nexus 10, Transformer Prime and Galaxy Nexus. If you want to check out the books I've been reading, I started with Mark Russinovich's Operation Desolation, then found Mary Roach's Gulp, and finished it up with a couple of books from Matthew Inman aka The Oatmeal. I got both How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You, and the brand new My Dog: The Paradox. Great stuff, my only problem is wishing all my paper back / hard cover books were on my tablet. I definitely don't want to repurchase them all over again. That could get quite expensive. One day perhaps. Speaking of content, this starts up a great discussion about borderline cord cutting and watching content on our cool new futuristic mobile devices. I'll tell you the super easy way to do it isn't always the legal way, but you can blame the mass media companies for that. How do you consume your movies? HDMI to the big screen right? Eric Finkenbiner talks about being hopeful for new Bluetooth support in the next version of Android. While we're talking about this, we should talk about some Google IO stuff. Droid Life has a good article here about some IO predictions. Oh and Babel is going to be called Hangouts. Please, can we just call it talk. The Verge has a story about that here. Not sure how we got here, but Windows 8 on a non touch screen is completely stupid. The Asus Q 200E is a pretty good Windows 8 touchscreen laptop. I like it. Seth shares some Microsoft announcements about Windows 8 numbers. It's because none of the brick and mortar stores have anything other than Windows 8. No Windows 7 :( Bill Gates also predicts that all tablets will die except for the Windows Surface. Lol. Speaking of having everything on one OS, did you see this article on ZDnet about Android powered PC's and Intel? This could be awesome. On tonight's episode we talk about some Google Glass reviews, tablets dying in five years, Microsoft's new Android app, Verizon's worthless cloud services, the shiny polished Facebook Home, Paranoid Android, and some Android 4.3 rumors. All this plus our app picks for episode 80 of Attack of the Androids. Thanks for checking it out! There's been a couple Google Glass reviews popping up online. Most notably the Robert Scoble shower scene, and his review on Google+, and of course, Tim Steven's review on Engadget. There were also a couple of reviews we didn't really talk about on the show, because they are a bit older. But if you want to check them out, Joshua Topolsky from The Verge has an early Glass review here, as does Drew Olanoff here on Tech Crunch. Thorsten Heins, the Blackberry CEO says tablets are not a good business model, and will be dead in five years. I don't know about that, sounds like someone is making excuses for why their tablet is dead. Speaking of Glass, there was a Twitter card spotted out in the wild. This is kind of cool, it's good to see more developers working on Glassware. Microsoft has a new Android app in the Play Store. They want you to switch to Windows Phone, and they show you apps that you already have on your Android device, that you could use on your Windows Phone. This is laughable at best. Nice try Microsoft. Here's an article on The Verge about it. You would think Verizon has better things to do with it's time than making more apps and services that are already out there, and no one will ever use. They seem to spend more time creating bloatware than anything else these days. Check out the article here on PC World. Huge thanks to Richard Hay's friend who sent me a G1. It's so old and cool, I love it. Let's all reminisce for a minute. Matias Durate had some really nice things to say about Facebook Home. Nice and polished, as it should be. I hope the people making skins and UI overlays for Android can take a long hard look at what Facebook has done here, and do that. Also make it optional, so we can turn off your crapware when we don't want it. Paranoid Android has added some  chat head like notifications and multitasking to their latest custom rom. This is actually really cool, I hope to see more design like this in the future. Check out the article here on Phandroid. More rumours the next version of Android is going to be 4.3. It's not going to be Key Lime Pie. We'll see what really happens at Google IO this month. Laptop Mag has an article about speeding up your Android device in under five minutes. Let's talk a little bit more about Facebook Home. I'll cut them a little slack because it's new. I do honestly like the new Facebook Messenger update, utilizing the chat heads. Facebook Messenger is the only Facebook app I have installed on my Galaxy Nexus. The normal Facebook app was being a giant PILE. If we were playing Better or Worse, it would get a big giant WORSE. PC Mag has an article about Facebook Home here. Take note of the one star comments on the Facebook Home app page on Google Play. Quite amusing. Here's an interesting article on Tech Crunch about Sony releasing some AOSP love for the Xperia Z. Of course nothing is perfect, and it is lacking in some areas. Gizmodo has an article outlining five simple ways to keep your Android device malware free. That's cool and all Gizmodo, but I also wrote a couple of articles about this sort of thing. Hey Giz, maybe you should hire me or something! Anyway, check out my article about how to prevent yourself from becoming part of an Android botnet, and a few Android security apps you shouldn't ever install. We're calling out all the writers tonight. Since we're talking about mobile security, check out this amazing (sarcastic) article on Read Write. It's about how to tell if you're Android smartphone is infected. This is the best list ever. Check out this article on Tech News World about using your old crappy Android devices for high tech security. Yeah right. There is absolutely nothing winning about using a Droid X as your surveillance camera. Granted Wifi Analyzer and G-Mon are very handy for doing a little wardriving here and there, but that's about it. The HTC One is cool, but I'm really not down with the button layout. Home should be in the middle, where it freaking belongs. Not your stupid logo. Plus I've been spoiled with Nexus devices, so anything less than a pure Android or CyanogenMod experience is completely unacceptable. HTC has apparently done what Google wouldn't. Check out the article on The Verge here. If you need a cool app to control your keyboard and mouse from your Android device, check out Gmote 2.0. I use this app on the daily. Engadget has an article reviewing the new Asus Cube Google TV. Not bad, but not really all that great. Then again, TV is dead to me. Give me a good computer monitor any day. Eric has installed Facebook Home on his Nexus 4. All hacked and side loaded like a boss!  Listen to the show and find out what he thinks. If you got the Facebook Messenger and Facebook app updates, you will have seen Facebook Faces pop up on your device. It's weird at first, and I don't quite know how to feel about it. What's your social network of choice? Just curious. Finally, some Google Glass specs. Check it out here. Robert Scoble released a first look of his Google Glass. It's kind of interesting hearing someone talk about it who actually has it on their face. There is a point where they mention the augmented reality aspect isn't really there. That's why I'll wait for revision two or three. The Asus AIO is finally available. It's pretty cool, but not for $1,300. I just say that because I'm a starving artist. Android Police has an article about it here. Jawbone and Ingress partnering in a promotion? Does anyone think this is cool? OUYA isn't as perfect as you would hope. This demonstrates it's not as easy as you might think to go from nothing to finished product in a short time frame. For the internet, it's never short enough though. If you are a backer, you should receive your OUYA by the end of may. Here's another article on Android Authority about benchmarking the OUYA. Not that impressive, or so they say. Thanks for listening! Let's start things out with a huge thanks to Google for adding more great stuff to hangouts. Because you know, we're not distracted enough without the gong sound. We love it. April Fools has once again come and gone. The only real cool Android April Fools I found was what Swiftkey did. It's called Swiftkey Tilt. You can check out a video about it here on YouTube. So what do you think about a Facebook phone? Of course they wouldn't make their own hardware, but releasing a launcher, or Facebook's Home on Android, and partnering with some major device manufacturers might be a step in the right direction. That is, if you are Facebook, and want more mind share on people's Android devices. Check out the Android Police APK teardown here. The Verge also has an article about it here. Mike is more of a Facebook fan than a Google+ user. It's ok, we won't hold his site-ist views against him. We try to please all of our listeners, on all of the platforms. As a younger person, are you using Facebook or Twitter? Or, are you using some service that we old folks haven't even heard of yet? Eric has a good point, maybe we should all just mind our own business for a while. So the bottom line on the Facebook announcement is this. The Facebook Android app is NOT GOOD. It's actually quite the horrendous experience. Especially on tablets. Why would you want Facebook extending it's tendrils even deeper into your system? That's right, we wouldn't. Here's a great article on Forbes talking about how there's more and more evidence that points to China as being the ones who have been releasing this Android malware. Apparently it's only something you need to worry about it you are A. sideloading apps, or B. a Tibetan activist. You can check out the Android malware  research done by Citizen Lab. What do you think of the rumored Android Book? I really hope they don't call it that. The name just rings weird in my brain ears. I would almost rather they call it a Chromebook Android or something, I don't know. I would love a Chromebook Pixel running Android, but I definitely wouldn't pay any more than $500 for one. Here's a list from Android Headlines of the top ten best Android devices of April. Which mind you, we are only about two or four days into April. Still a pretty decent list of Android devices if you are in the market for a new one. Mike wants to know, how the heck do I get Flash on my new Android tablet. Well, it's a process, and probably not worth the time. But you can do it. You just have to downgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. I've always said Flash should only be used for games and cartoons, not for building sites. Oh well, you live and you learn right internet? All this plus our app picks on episode 75 of Attack of the Androids. Shane got a new device after his Galaxy Nexus crapped out. He decided to go with the LG Nexus 4. Do you want to know why? Well, listen to the show. I like how people are still mostly forced into buying a smartphone based on the carrier. Your carrier should not have that much influence in the device you purchase. If you have a Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 10.1, go into Settings ---> Advanced and you can change the GPU clock speed, mess with your color multipliers tuning, color hack tuning, and if you like, choose color hack presets. These will really make your device shine if you set them right. I can also see how setting this improperly could possibly do some damage to your device. So be careful. Check out the Google+ Community for more information and screenshots. Is anyone excited about the new Blackberry Z10? What about the new Windows phone? According to a guy I met working in the industry, his store sent back all of their Windows phones, and not one person has bought a new Blackberry. Chris Miller is still convinced Blackberry will be ok. Check out this new awesome Android prediction keyboard called the Minuum. You can support The Minuum Keyboard Project here on Indie Go Go for the next 21 days as of this writing. Check out the video here on YouTube. Ingress got updated, and completely screwed up the GPS tracking. You can read about that update here on Reddit. Then about a week later another update came out and completely fixed the problem in the 1.22.0 update. Check it out here on Google Play. They have also added something called Power Cubes to the inventory list, which I am quite excited about. I haven't found one yet, but I feel the power calling out to me. Soon my precious, very soon. Gmail also got an update that added the delete function to the notification card in Jellybean. We've been asking for this option for quite some time. It's a little convoluted on how to enable it, but if you go into general settings, into swiping conversation list, and change that to always delete. Then you should see the delete option in the notification card. Great stuff Google! Chris mentions that Swiftkey also got an update. I love how these apps just keep getting better and better. Samsung and LG are getting into a little patent scuffle over a silly gimmicky novelty. It sounds like LG initiated this, and who knows, maybe they need every possible advantage they can eek out in this Android battle. The Verge has an article about it here. Let's talk some Android security. Did you see this article about cross platform malware that starts on your Android device and then jumps to your desktop when you plug in the USB? Watch your back out there, it's a cold world. Watch what you install and you shouldn't have a problem. Here's an Android pro tip, if your device is slow, installing an app is most likely not going to speed it up any. Maybe try uninstalling some apps. I made the jump on my Galaxy Nexus from the CyanogenMod 10 stable to the latest CM 10.1 M release. These our the monthly releases that generally work well enough for a day to day device, depending on what your doing. Jellybean 4.2.1 is pretty sweet. Speaking of updates, Android Police have an article about new 4.2.1 code getting pushed out to AOSP. Google Glass finally appears in FCC filings. We all speculate about this cool project. Android 4.2-gate has begun! Have you noticed any problems? Here's some of the more noticeable errors people encountered over on Android Police. Random reboots anyone? Dude, Eric got his Nexus Q finally. Let's have a huge round of applause for the Nexus Q. Google is right, sound effects are fun. The Nexus 7 and 10 don't support Miracast. People are angry. Here's the Google Group. If you got a Nexus 4, rest assured it will NEVER be LTE. Here's a cool article on Android Central about a LTE chip found inside the Nexus 4. In corrections, my girlfriend's Huawei is running Android 2.3.6. My bad. The Droid DNA has apparently upped the ante. I still don't know what that means. Touch this DNA. Ant seems to think it might be a bit of a security problem. Joey brings to light a potential problem in the medical industry with this. Shane seems to think so and I have to agree with him. Transparent and open source is the best way to go for democracy. Here's the Security Episode 211 Joey was referring to if you are curious. It's about voting machine hacking. If you use Google Now, you can say "Election Results" and Google displays some great near real time information on the election. If you keep your location history in Google, you might start seeing the Google Now location history card. I don't see it yet on my Galaxy Nexus, but Shane has it. I retract my last week's "Better or Worse" for the new BeyondPod update. I sent them an email about the clear episode image cache setting, and they replied very promptly letting me know where the setting has been moved to. Thanks BeyondPod! Is Android 2.3 Gingerbread the Windows XP of mobile? According to Kaspersky, Gingerbread is the most targeted version of Android when it comes to malware and Trojan SMS programs. Check out this cool Galaxy Nexus screen graphic setting on the CM 10 nightly or M. Make your screen really look nice, and overclock your GPU. Even though the event was cancelled due to storms, they still had some amazing stuff for everyone. Among the things announced was a new flavor of Jellybean, Android 4.2. XDA has a great rundown of what not to miss here. Photosphere was a pretty interesting announcement. Check out the video here. Shane mentions the Google Now cards update actually came with the Google Search app update. So if you are on Jellybean and don't have the new Google Now cards, make sure you update the Google Search app. Here's a link to an article on The Verge about the new Google Nexus device prices. Apparently this has been fixed for a bit, but that won't stop NBC News from getting as many clicks as it can from this headline. Good artists copy, great artists steal, right Apple? Where did you get that snazzy new "OLD" iOS 6 clock from? The Swiss of course. They make the best clocks! In more Samsung news, we have reports coming out they are working on their own mobile browser. Do you think this is really something Samsung should be spending their time and resources on? Personally, I do not. Check out some more alleged Galaxy Nexus 2 rumors over on Android Authority. Is anyone excited about this device, or not yet? Motorola has changed it's software upgrade timeline, filled with delays left and right. This is another great reason why you should be using custom roms. Would you make the switch to the new iPhone? This fun little survey thinks you just might. What does that even mean? Your numbers are confusing me. Which operating system do developers prefer? Some say fragmentation is hurting Android. I don't see it. I don't know why, but I really want a Wikipad. It's like an oversized Android Game Gear. How cool is that? Maybe not $500 cool, but still pretty damn cool. What does the + mean? Your guess is as good as mine. We've heard mixed reviews about the HTC One X, but for the most part people are enjoying it. Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the fastest and most expensive Android tablet of them all? As of right now, it's the quadcore Krait / Adreno powered Snapdragon S4 Pro Mobile Development Platform tablet. All this could be your's for the low low price of $1,300. Honestly, it's got some nice specs, but the price point is way off, unless you happen to be a rich developer who wants some impressive new tech to develop for. Seth shares more thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S III. It's interesting to listen to how his opinion has evolved the more he uses the device. What could possibly be draining my phone in two hours? Well Seth, what have you downloaded lately? Personally, I'm happy I stuck with my Galaxy Nexus, especially running Jellybean. Shane and I share our thoughts after using Google Now for a while. Shane wrote a really cool article about it over on AND. If you want to watch the Olympics live on your device, make sure it's not running Jellybean. Personally, I would rather run Jellybean than be able to watch the games on my smartphone. Jellybean is just that awesome, and I really don't care about the Olympics, or paying for ad riddled television. No thanks! In some Android security news, security specialist Charlie Miller gave a demonstration at Black Hat showing a very interesting way to hijack an Android smartphone using Near Field Communication which just so happens to be turned on by default. Two words: Opt In. People need to realize the phones they carry around with them are no longer cheap burner type feature phones. In most cases these devices can cost more than six hundred dollars and are more powerful than our home computers. You should treat them as such. How many times have you "lost" your computer? Have you ever lost your laptop? Drop us a comment below and tell us about it! I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I've never lost an expensive piece of technology that I have deemed important enough to store all my personal information on. Google has completely underestimated demand for it's 16 gig version of the Nexus 7 tablet. You can find them here and there, but a lot of people are having problems getting them. I've had some more time with the Vicious Jellybean rom. The new V1 that's compiled from 4.1.1 source is very nice. I was using the Faux beta 19 kernel, but finally got some random reboots. I re-flashed the pure V1 4.1.1 rom using the kernel that comes with it, and it's been running even better. Definitely check it out if you have a Galaxy Nexus. Seth has been using his Samsung Galaxy S III for a whole week now, and he's really into this phone. He highly recommends it. He also went to comic con, so take from that what you will. Who still want's an Ouya? I sure do. They have made over five million dollars so far. That is an amazing Kickstarter project. Will you send us one for free to review? That would be fantastic. Prepare for a solid 30 minute review of this amazing device. Parts of Montana finally got Verizon LTE flipped on. It really makes the device seem much faster. Or maybe it's the Jellybean rom I'm running on my Galaxy Nexus. Here's an intersting write up I posted in the AotA Subreddit about how the Galaxy Nexus is measuring your signal strength. You have a better signal than you think. My Samsung Galaxy SIII randomly exploded. You know, after my friend put it in a toaster oven. Like Eric says on the show, it's a tale as old as time. Stay tuned next week when Seth tells us what he really thinks about the Galaxy SIII after using it for a week. If you want a Galaxy S III with an unlocked bootloader, it's going to cost you. It's the new $600 Galaxy S III Developer Edition! After Seth's Samasung Galaxy SIII review, I give you my Jellybean review. In summary, it's AWESOME! If you have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and want to try out Jellybean before it gets pushed to your device OTA, check out the Team Liquid Jellybean thread over on XDA. I am using Vicious JellyBean V3 with the Faux beta 19 1.8Ghz kernel. Remember, what works great for me MAY NOT WORK for you. Try a few of them until you see what works best for your hardware. Let's talk about Apple's 7 inch iPad mini. Does this validate the less than ten inch tablet? I would love to have a massive 20 or 30 inch "tablet." I would definitely make a coffee table out of it. Just think how awesome that would be. Seriously. Have you heard of the OUYA? They basically just beat the Internet winning a whopping 1.8 million dollars on their 99 dollar Android gaming console kickstarter project. I definitely want one. Good news! If you have the Google Nexus Q, you can now install and run apps on it! Of course it will take a little hacking, but you can do it. Remember that massive Android malware problem? Oh yea, it was Yahoo's fault... and the news completely gets it wrong as usual. Microsoft is signing deals left and right. Pretty soon it's not going to matter if they can make relevant products, because they will make money from everyone else who is. If you want Google Now, now, you can put it on your device, as long as your running an ICS AOSP rom. More malware in the market? This week the Pom Pom is that crazy Nokia 808 PureView with a 41 megapixel sensor and a nice Carl Zeiss lens. It's basically a wicked decent camera with a phone attached to it. We have some great Google IO rumors, and next Tuesday we'll see how it all went. Android Police has a great preview of what you can expect at Google IO. Who's excited for the Google Nexus 7? I sure do want one of these. Here's an article on Gizmodo comparing all of the major Android skins you might come into contact with. I got my hands on an Acer Iconia 500 tablet. I have to say, after upgrading to ICS, it's not too bad. A bit on the heavy side, but that's to be expected with all the add-ons it has built in. For the price it's not a bad Android tablet. Definitely nothing I would trade my Transformer Prime in for, but still decent. Joey rants real quick about GTA III not running on his Nook. Hmm, perhaps because it's a Nook? Perhaps you should get a new device? Perhaps something from this decade? Google gets the Jellybean sculpture in, and we all rejoice. Well, we will once our phones get it at least. I sure wish my Prime was an Infinity. The new Transformer Pad Infinity is looking pretty sweet. They seem to have fixed everything we were complaining about with the TF-201. Samsung may have lost two million hypothetical units. Is the shortage affecting you? Is this a move out of Apple's playbook? People want what they can't have, because people are silly. Seth explains what he's going to do with the new Verizon plans. The rest of us still aren't happy about it. But what can you do? Just keep on keeping on, or switch back to a feature phone. Let's get into an Apple / Android discussion. Or better yet, let's not. I am not happy with the new Seesmic Ping updates. You want us to pay a subscription each month? NAH! It was a great app, until you pulled that crap. Seriously Loic? And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. The AotA lamest article of the year award goes to PC World and Armando Rodriguez for his hard hitting piece entitled, How to Maintain Your Android Phone. On the other hand, this might be more helpful than what the carriers are doing to educate their customers. That is now what I am reminded of when I hear the word surface. We say you can put in work with the Transformer Prime. Do you think it's a feasible work machine? I would personally like the Transformer AIO. It seems like the best of both worlds. Do you think Nokia is going to fail? I'm going to guess it's a possibility. Maybe RIM will save them. Starting the hype early for this one, it's the Google Asus Nexus tablet! Fragmentation FTW! Gamestop is going to start selling some Android tablets. These Android tablets are EVERYWHERE! Welcome to episode 20 of Attack of the Androids! We strive each and every week to be the best Android podcast we can be. It seems like only yesterday we started this podcast, but nay it was started back in September. So here we are, each week presenting you what we feel is the most interesting and relevant news in regards to Android. Before we get into the show notes for episode 20, I have something I'd like to discuss with you. I think more people need to focus on the fact that it's near impossible to purchase a mobile device that was manufactured here in America. Don't get me wrong, the devices other countries make are great depending on your level of standards, but when stories like this one about Apple and the dire working conditions the people who work for Foxconn deal with, as good moral human beings we have to ask ourselves one question. Is it worth it? Granted things could be, and used to be, far worse.

Let's take a look at the numbers. Between January and November 2010, 14 Foxconn employees killed themselves. 18 Foxconn employees in all tried to. 20 Chinese universities created a report describing the working conditions these humans deal with day to day, basically comparing Foxconn to "Labor Camps." From what I understand, a month or so after that about 150 Foxconn employees threatened mass suicide because Foxconn refused to pay them what they were promised. This is just a minute sliver of the things human beings are dealing with all over the world just so consumers can keep on consuming.

Don't get me wrong, the devices other countries make are great depending on your level of standards, but when stories like this one about Apple and the dire working conditions the people who work for Foxconn deal with, as good moral human beings we have to ask ourselves one question. Is it worth it? Granted things could be, and used to be, far worse. Let's take a look at the numbers. Between January and November 2010, 14 Foxconn employees killed themselves. 18 Foxconn employees in all tried to. 20 Chinese universities created a report describing the working conditions these humans deal with day to day, basically comparing Foxconn to "Labor Camps." From what I understand, a month or so after that about 150 Foxconn employees threatened mass suicide because Foxconn refused to pay them what they were promised. This is just a minute sliver of the things human beings are dealing with all over the world just so consumers can keep on consuming.
