“You’re not on the internet, you can’t play Uno.”
Hello and welcome to another fun filled informative episode of our weekly Android talk show, AotA. Mat Lee here with Eric Finkenbiner and Nick Carroll talking about the latest Android news of the week, including the Android 4.3 package file invalid error, Cheapcast, measuring your smartphone in bang per watt, a backdoor in Google Cloud Messaging service, JBQ leaving AOSP, Deodex vs Odex, this week’s app picks, and so much more. Thanks for checking out episode 94. Make sure to hang out with us on the next live show every Tuesday evening, and throughout the week in the AotA Google+ community. See you next week!
Have you noticed on Android 4.3 the package file is invalid error? I have on my Nexus 10, but it seems to have been fixed since we recorded this episode. Android Police has an article about it here.
If you don’t have a Chromecast, that’s ok. Check out this cool app called CheapCast that will essetially turn your tablet into a Chromecast receiver. Cnet has an article about it here. Check out CheapCast here on Google Play.
It’s been awhile since we had a good solid Apple VS Android fanboy link bait article. Although there are a few good points made, I found the rest of the article to be meh. How much bang per watt do you get?
Yet another reason to use Text Secure. An article on RT states that Kaspersky Lab found a backdoor in Google Cloud Messaging service, aka GCM, which can be used by hackers to steal Android users’ data and force them to send paid messages. Can you say Bad News Bears? Because that’s exactly what this is.
Jean Baptiste Queru aka JBQ, has left the AOSP. For those of you who aren’t familiar, AOSP is the Android Open Source Project. Android Authority has an article about it here. Engadget has an article about the Nexus 7 factory images here.
In some rumor news, a researcher at the Topology Research Institute thinks Google Glass will come out with a $299 price point for the public. Make sure you have NoScript turned on, then check out the article on the China Post here.
Eric is going to explain the difference between Deodex and Odex. XDA has an article about how to Odex your rom directly from the device. Is this something that will actually speed up your device? Or is it another placebo effect? Remember, keep your entropy topped off.
So the Moto X will be sold through the Google Play store, but according to Droid Life, there will not be a Google Play edition. Is this because they don’t need a Google Play edition due to how vanilla the stock Motorola experience is now? Honestly, without actually handling the device yet, I think it will be all good. The more I read about the Moto x, the more I think this is going to be y next phone.
AotA app picks for episode 94
