AotA 87: Another Duh

“As an early backer who still doesn’t have his OUYA, it’s me.”

Back again for another episode of our weekly Android podcast, Attack of the Androids. Mat Lee here joined with Eric Finkenbiner and Nick Carroll talking about the latest Android news you care about. Join us as we talk about the CM 10.1 Stable / Android 4.3 bet, some stupid apps everyone has, Blackberry Secure Work Space, the HP Slate 21, Sony’s Smartwatch, the OUYA, Nexus experience phones, the FAA, and of course so much more. Plus don’t forget to check out this week’s app picks. We’re not totally sure how legit Nick’s app pick is, so proceed with caution. Thanks for checking out episode 87 of AotA. We’ll see you next Tuesday!

Guess who won the bet? That’s right, this guy. As you may remember, Eric and I had a bet going to see what would come out first, either CyanogenMod 10.1 Stable or Android 4.3. Well, I’m happy to say I’m now running CM 10.1 stable on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

Who’s excited for their Black Mist Verizon Galaxy S4 developer edition? I was until I read that they aren’t going to be subsidized. Better luck next time I suppose. I can’t justify that much up front for a device.

Let’s do a quick back and forth and see how many of the top 10 apps everyone has, that we have. The answers are stunning.

Is anyone besides Chris Miller excited about the news of Blackberry launching some iOS and Android service called Secure Work Space? I didn’t think so.

I’m kind of down with these Android computers. The latest is the HP’s Slate 21. Why wouldn’t I want a 21 inch Android tablet for $400? I would!

Sony has unveiled a new Smart Watch. I’m kind of excited about these, but I don’t really want to wear a watch. Although it would be nice not to glance at your phone every five minutes. But then again, you’ll just be looking at your watch every two minutes, so you lose either way.

The poor OUYA, and Eric. Why are you launching before all of your backers get their OUYA? That doesn’t seem very cool, unless of course you reached out to those early backers, but it doesn’t sound like everyone is satisfied yet. Poor Eric…

Who’s excited for the Nexus Experience phones? I would be, except I don’t think they are ever going to be on Verizon. Oh well.

Say goodbye to the Barnes and Noble Nook. Although if you got one of these cheap Nook HD tablets, you could probably root and rom it. That would at least make it useful.

If you didn’t get your Google Play Music All Access account locked in at the $7.99 a month price, by the time you read this it’s too late. The new price is now $9.99. It’s still awesome, but I’m glad I’m only paying eight instead of ten.

It looks like the FAA is finally going to ease up on device restrictions on planes. It’s about freaking time.
